9 months in the city where the wind is born

My time in the city where wind and rain merge into one (from my autumn experience) is gradually coming to an end. In about two weeks I will return home (Tbilisi, Georgia).
In September, at the beginning of the project, I had a hard time both at school and in the city. Considering the differences in culture, mentality, traditions, weather conditions, food, etc. between Georgia and Latvia, the adaptation process lasted even after the arrival for training at the end of September.
I started the project with an introductory presentation about myself and the country I come from. I told it to almost every student.
While searching for my role at school, I was involved in everyday work. Attending sports classes, participating in various games during breaks and extended group activities, until finally I found myself useful to students and teachers. I have gained enormous experience and competence in relationships with children of different ages. Watching them understand a guy from abroad who doesn't look or speak like their teachers. I discovered that the most cruel part of communicating with young people is to speak their language, so that I seem more convincing to them and they respect me.
A big novelty that happened to me was helping the technical and cleaning staff at school. I have learned new skills in housekeeping.
Of course, outside of school I also experienced a lot, gained new skills with my poor knowledge of Russian, I survived the despair of the coldest winter (-18), which I experienced for the first time in my life. I met new people and went to new places. I discovered the hospitality of the local Georgians living in Liepaja. We celebrated Christmas and welcomed the New Year together. I saved my pocket money and spent it to spend the Christmas holidays in my hometown with my family. In fact, I can say that the second semester was easier for me, because I felt more adapted to the Latvian lifestyle. I met so many great, open people with whom I could talk so nicely about so many different topics. For example, I met the head coach of FK "Liepājas mogo" and became a fan of this football team and went to watch matches.
That's all I wanted to share about my experience. Best wishes to you all!

The project "Educate my ChurChil - church & children" was funded by the EU Erasmus + program and the International Youth Programme Agency.
